How To Find Donation Opportunities For Foster Care

Much like trying to find volunteer opportunities near you can be tricky, finding a reputable place to give your monetary donation can also be tough. Here are some organizations that we’ve found for you to consider.

If you listened to our podcast on the challenge of Foster Care, you know that there are lots of kids and families involved that need support. There are over 100,000 children in the system waiting to be adopted and hopefully many will be adopted before they age out of the system. Whatever your motive to help foster children, any donation will go a long way to assist these children in having a brighter future.

Foster Care To Success

From their website:

We are the oldest and largest national nonprofit organization working solely with college bound foster youth. For over 30 years we have helped them navigate the tricky waters of academia, understand the importance of personal fiscal responsibility, determine achievable career goals, and create networks of friendship and support. Since 1981, over 50,000 foster youth have received information, advice, support or funding from Foster Care to Success, helping them to transition from care to adulthood through education.

We help by providing tuition grants as well as book money, living stipends and emergency funding for the unexpected expenses that could derail the most dedicated student on a tight budget. We also provide academic coaches, personal mentors, care packages and internship opportunities to the 5,000 young people we serve annually, enabling them to enjoy a college completion rate many times that of their peers who lack such support.

We found them to be one of the best places to donate your money. With good intentions and a solid track record of helping youth succeed, they are a prime candidate for your consideration.

Together We Rise

Together We Rise is a 501(c)3 non-profit organization comprised of motivated young adults and former foster youth. Our vision is to improve the lives of children in foster care, who often find themselves forgotten and neglected by the public. We collaborate with individuals, companies, and community partners to bring resources to foster youth and use service-learning activities to educate volunteers on issues surrounding the foster care system.

TWR works with hundreds of foster agencies, social workers, CASA advocates, and other partners to bring our programs to foster youth across the nation. Our foundation has allowed us to provide thousands of foster youth across the country with new bicycles, college supplies, and sweet cases so that children do not have to travel from home to home with their belongings in a trash bag.

We love what they are doing at Together We Rise, another great organization to consider. Visit them at https://www.togetherwerise.org

A Sense of Home

This one hits close for us here at For The Hidden. They are aligned with many of our views on one of the biggest struggle with the foster care system, which is the youth aging out and half of them becoming homeless. A Sense of Home strives to prevent homelessness by creating first-ever homes for youth aging out of foster care with donated furniture and home goods.

50% of those struggling with homelessness are former foster youth. The homeless crisis can only end through prevention. The largest sector falling into homelessness are virtually invisible to society. They are the young people who survived the foster care system only to exit the system having to fend for themselves.

These are just the tip of the iceberg when looking for places to donate to. There are countless organizations looking to improve the quality of life for current and former foster youth. If none of those instantly jump out to you, you can donate to us! All of the proceeds that we get from sales and donations will go towards supporting our mission of helping those in need.
